Mass ‘No Kings’ protests sweep US cities in challenge to Trump policies
Large-scale protests have taken place across the United States in the latest wave of “No Kings” rallies, as demonstrators voiced strong opposition to policies pursued by President Donald Trump and his administration.
Organisers say the protests—now in their third major iteration—have again drawn significant crowds, with demonstrations reported in nearly every major city, including New York City, Washington DC, and Los Angeles.
In the US capital, thousands gathered at the Lincoln Memorial and filled large sections of the National Mall, holding banners and chanting slogans against the administration.
Protesters marched through downtown streets, with similar scenes unfolding in cities across the country, where crowds criticized what they described as authoritarian tendencies and controversial policy decisions.
The rallies focused on several key issues, including the ongoing tensions involving Iran, federal immigration enforcement policies, and the rising cost of living, which organisers say has increasingly burdened working families.
“Trump wants to rule over us as a tyrant. But this is America, and power belongs to the people—not to wannabe kings or their billionaire allies,” organisers said in a statement.
The demonstrations also featured symbolic actions, including effigies of President Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and other senior officials. Protesters called for investigations and, in some cases, the removal of administration figures from office.
In response, a White House spokesperson dismissed the rallies, referring to them as “Trump Derangement Therapy Sessions” and claiming they were largely driven by media attention rather than widespread public concern.
According to organisers, participation in the “No Kings” movement has continued to grow, with recent estimates suggesting turnout in the hundreds of thousands nationwide, though still below the peak levels seen in earlier mobilisations.
Local authorities in several cities reported minor clashes and isolated arrests, particularly in parts of Los Angeles and Chicago, though the majority of protests remained peaceful.
Analysts note that the renewed wave of demonstrations comes at a time of heightened political polarization in the US, with public opinion increasingly divided over foreign policy decisions and domestic economic pressures.
Recent polling has also indicated growing concern among segments of the population over inflation and military involvement abroad, issues that have become central themes for protest organisers.
The continued protests reflect deepening societal divisions as the US approaches a critical political period, with activists signaling plans for further nationwide demonstrations in the coming weeks.
Observers say the persistence of the “No Kings” rallies underscores a broader grassroots movement that could influence the national political landscape, particularly if economic pressures and foreign policy tensions continue to intensify. (ILKHA)
