Massive fire in southern Norway destroys more than 100 homes
More than 100 homes were destroyed in a fast-moving wildfire near the city of Drammen in southern Norway on Friday, as firefighters battled to contain the blaze amid strong winds, rescue officials said.
The fire broke out near the city of Drammen and continues to burn out of control as firefighters battle to contain the fast-moving flames.
Fanned by powerful winds, the blaze spread from residential areas into nearby woodland, prompting a large-scale emergency response.
Authorities said more than 100 homes have been completely destroyed, while hundreds of people have been evacuated from the affected area. Residents in nearby communities threatened by the advancing fire have also been urged to leave their homes as a precaution.
More than 60 firefighters, assisted by helicopters carrying out water drops, have been deployed to combat the blaze. No fatalities or missing persons have been reported.
