Putin conveys Iran’s proposal for ending war to Trump, Kremlin says
Russian President Vladimir Putin conveyed Iran’s vision for a possible resolution to the war to US President Donald Trump during a telephone conversation on Friday, coordinating the message with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, the Kremlin said Saturday.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Putin relayed Tehran’s position during the call, although he did not disclose details of the proposals or Trump’s response.
“Putin subsequently conveyed the Iranian side’s vision for a possible resolution to the war to Trump, in coordination with the Iranian president,” Peskov told reporters.
According to the Kremlin, Putin had met Pezeshkian twice in Turkmenistan on the sidelines of the Commonwealth of Independent States summit and the Caspian Environmental Summit. During one of the meetings, the Russian president informed his Iranian counterpart that he was due to speak with Trump.
The meetings included bilateral talks between Putin and Pezeshkian, as well as trilateral discussions involving Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
The Kremlin did not provide further information about the Iranian proposals or indicate whether Washington had responded to Tehran’s position.
Trump describes call as ‘highly successful’
Trump described his October 9 telephone conversation with Putin as “highly successful” in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social.
Kirill Dmitriev, Putin’s special representative for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries and head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, also welcomed the discussion.
“President Putin and President Trump just had a successful call,” Dmitriev wrote on X.
Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said the conversation focused substantially on prospects for resolving the conflict in Ukraine.
The Kremlin’s announcement highlighted Moscow’s ongoing diplomatic contacts with both Washington and Tehran. However, the details of Iran’s proposed approach to ending the war, as well as the positions taken by the US and Russia, remained undisclosed. (ILKHA)
