Qatar donates $20 million to support Lebanese army amidst economic crisis

The Lebanese army received a much-needed boost on Monday with a $20 million donation from Qatar.
The funds, presented by Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, are intended to help alleviate the strain of Lebanon's ongoing economic crisis on its military personnel.
According to a statement issued by the Lebanese army command, the donation will be distributed equally among soldiers following the completion of administrative procedures.
"This valuable initiative comes as a testament to Qatar's continued support for the Lebanese military," said Joseph Aoun, the Lebanese army commander. He expressed his gratitude for the donation, highlighting its role in easing the burden of the crisis on servicemen.
Lebanon's deep economic and financial crisis, which began in 2019, has significantly impacted the army. The devaluation of the Lebanese pound has led to a sharp decline in the value of wages for public sector employees, including soldiers. (ILKHA)
