Russian attacks kill 11, injure 62 across Ukraine in 24 hours
At least 11 people were killed and 62 others injured in Russian attacks across Ukraine over the past 24 hours, Ukrainian authorities said on Friday.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia launched a large-scale overnight assault involving two Iskander-M ballistic missiles, two Oniks anti-ship missiles, three Kh-59/69 guided missiles, and 90 long-range drones.
Ukrainian air defenses said they intercepted one Kh-59/69 guided missile and 69 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) over the country's northern, southern, and eastern regions. Missile and drone impacts were recorded at 19 locations, while debris from intercepted weapons fell at five additional sites.
Ukraine's southern Odesa Oblast was the primary focus of the latest Russian strikes, according to the Air Force. The region has experienced near-daily missile and drone attacks in recent weeks during the peak summer tourist season.
Governor Oleh Kiper said a 77-year-old man was killed in a Russian strike in Odesa at around 3 p.m. local time on July 17.
Later the same day, another attack struck the region's port infrastructure, damaging a civilian cargo vessel sailing under the Marshall Islands flag. The strike ignited a fire aboard the ship, prompting the evacuation of all 17 crew members, four of whom sustained injuries.
In neighboring Kherson Oblast, Russian forces attacked 41 settlements over the past day, killing three people and injuring 18 others, according to Governor Oleksandr Prokudin.
Further east in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, one person was killed and two others—including a child—were injured in the Zaporizhzhia district.
Regional authorities said Russian forces carried out 851 attacks on 51 settlements, employing drones, artillery, multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS), and aircraft.
In Donetsk Oblast, Governor Vadym Filashkin reported that Russian attacks killed three civilians and wounded eight others across the region.
Meanwhile, in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, the Nikopol district came under renewed attack. Governor Oleksandr Hanzha said a Russian first-person-view (FPV) drone struck a bus in the town of Marhanets, killing a 48-year-old man and injuring eight others.
Another civilian was injured in the Kryvyi Rih district, the governor added.
In northeastern Kharkiv Oblast, Russian strikes targeted the regional capital and 29 surrounding settlements, killing two people and injuring 17 others, including five children, Governor Oleh Syniehubov said.
In northern Chernihiv Oblast, six people—including three children—were wounded in Russian attacks.
Governor Viacheslav Chaus said a strike on a residential house in the city of Novhorod-Siverskyi injured an entire family, including the parents and their three sons aged 7, 11, and 17. The youngest child remains in serious condition.
In Sumy Oblast, regional authorities reported that two people were injured during Russian attacks over the past day.
The latest wave of strikes comes as Russia continues its sustained aerial campaign against Ukrainian cities and infrastructure, with southern regions facing intensified bombardment amid the ongoing conflict. (ILKHA)
