Six killed in Colombia plane crash
A tragic aviation accident in Colombia claimed six lives Sunday, including renowned Colombian singer Yeison Jiménez, when a small private aircraft crashed during takeoff in the Paipa area of Boyacá.
According to early reports from civil aviation authorities, the plane struggled to gain altitude shortly after departing the Juan José Rondón aerodrome. It came down at the far end of the runway and erupted into flames, completely destroying the aircraft and killing all six people on board.
Jiménez, one of Colombia’s most beloved musical talents, had just finished a performance in Boyacá and was en route to Medellín for a scheduled appearance when the fatal crash occurred. The popular artist’s sudden death has sent shockwaves through the country’s music community and among his wide fan base.
Video footage circulated online appears to show the aircraft taxiing along the runway in the moments before takeoff, adding to the heartbreak and media attention surrounding the incident.
Civil aviation officials confirmed the deaths of all occupants and said an official investigation is now underway to determine the cause of the crash. Investigators will analyze flight data, weather conditions, aircraft maintenance records and eyewitness accounts as part of the inquiry.
Fans across Colombia and beyond have taken to social media to mourn Jiménez’s passing, sharing tributes and messages of condolence for the singer and the other victims. The government and cultural figures have also expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the artist, whose music had a significant impact on contemporary Colombian culture.
Authorities have not yet released the identities of the other five victims pending notification of relatives.
The aviation accident marks a devastating end to what had been a successful tour schedule for Jiménez, and his sudden death has left the nation in mourning. Further details are expected as investigators work to clarify the circumstances that led to the tragic crash. (ILKHA)
