Syria’s President Ahmad al-Sharaa held talks on Wednesday in Abu Dhabi with United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, focusing on strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation between the two countries.
The discussions were attended by high-ranking officials, including Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani and UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahy.
The meeting primarily focused on expanding bilateral cooperation, with a specific emphasis on economic partnerships and long-term development. Both leaders expressed a shared commitment to initiatives that serve mutual interests while fostering stability and prosperity across the region.
Beyond economic ties, the two heads of state addressed critical regional security developments. The leaders stressed the vital importance of coordinating efforts to maintain stability, particularly in response to recent security challenges in the region, including recent Iranian attacks. This visit to Abu Dhabi is part of a wider diplomatic tour by the Syrian President, which also included official stops in Saudi Arabia and Qatar. The tour is viewed by analysts as a diplomatic push to mend ties and engage with Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations.
In a statement posted on social media platform X following the meeting, the Syrian President noted that the discussions with Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan were highly productive. He highlighted that the prospects for joint work have expanded, noting that both countries see significant opportunities for growth through deepened economic collaboration and shared development goals.
