Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa arrives in Moscow for official talks with Putin
Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa has arrived in Moscow for an official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between Syria and Russia and discussing key regional and international developments, according to the official Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).
Al-Sharaa’s visit marks a significant moment in Syrian-Russian relations, coming amid growing regional tensions and ongoing international efforts to reshape the dynamics in the Middle East.
The Kremlin confirmed that President Vladimir Putin will meet with al-Sharaa during the visit to discuss “mutual cooperation in defense, economic, and political fields,” as well as the situation in the occupied Syrian territories and regional stability.
“This visit reflects the depth of relations between Syria and Russia and their continued coordination on regional and international issues,” SANA reported, citing a presidential statement.
According to diplomatic sources, the two leaders are also expected to address the future of Russian military presence in Syria and efforts to promote reconstruction in war-affected areas.
The visit comes as both nations reaffirm their shared opposition to Western sanctions and emphasize the importance of a multipolar global order rooted in mutual respect and sovereignty.
Observers see the trip as part of a broader Syrian effort to consolidate alliances and counterbalance Western influence in the region.
This is President al-Sharaa’s first visit to Moscow since assuming office, signaling Damascus’s commitment to maintaining its strategic partnership with Russia amid the shifting geopolitical landscape.(ILKHA)
