Ten killed in head-on collision on Herat-Kandahar highway in Afghanistan
A road accident on Sunday in western Herat province left 10 people dead and more than 10 others injured, local authorities reported.
According to a statement from the Herat provincial police office, the crash occurred in the morning on the Herat-Kandahar highway, one of Afghanistan’s busiest routes connecting the western and southern regions of the country.
Preliminary reports indicate that a car collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle, resulting in multiple fatalities and injuries. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene to provide medical assistance to the wounded and manage traffic along the highway.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the collision, with early indications pointing to possible reckless driving or loss of control, although no official determination has yet been made.
The Herat-Kandahar highway is a vital transport artery for both commercial and civilian traffic, and accidents on this route are not uncommon due to heavy traffic and challenging road conditions. (ILKHA)
