Türkiye enhances flight safety at Damascus Airport

Türkiye has launched efforts to modernize Damascus International Airport, sending a technical team and equipment to improve flight safety and security in Syria’s capital.
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that a 25-member Turkish technical team arrived in Damascus after crossing the Cilvegözü Border Gate in Hatay’s Reyhanlı district on February 7. The team has commenced work on enhancing the airport’s navigation, security, and operational systems.
As part of the initiative, six trucks transported 113 vehicles, devices, and systems to Damascus for airport modernization. The Turkish team is installing and repairing air navigation aids, deploying new radio communication systems, and conducting a detailed analysis of flight operations to ensure improved airspace safety.
To bolster security within the airport terminal, Türkiye has provided 10 X-ray screening devices, 4 explosive trace detectors, 10 door-type metal detectors, and 8 handheld detectors, with most of the installations already completed.
Officials confirmed that most of the security systems have already been installed and that the Turkish team will also train Damascus Airport personnel on their use.
This modernization effort reflects Türkiye’s continued engagement in Syria’s infrastructure development. The move is expected to enhance flight operations and airport security, facilitating safer air travel in the war-affected region. (ILKHA)
