Fifteen people were injured after two trams collided in Rotterdam, the Netherlands' second-largest city.

The accident occurred on the Erasmus Bridge, one of the city's most recognizable landmarks.

Local media reported that a tram traveling at high speed from the city center crashed into another tram that was stationary as the bridge had opened to allow river traffic to pass. The impact caused extensive damage to the vehicles, with debris scattered across the bridge.

City safety officials said one of the trams derailed following the collision.

Authorities revised the number of injured from an initial estimate of 18 to 15. One of the victims sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital.

Emergency responders, including a trauma helicopter, were dispatched to the scene. The Erasmus Bridge was closed to traffic after the crash, while authorities launched an investigation into the cause of the collision.(ILKHA)
