UN Security Council to address Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is set to hold its regular monthly open session on Wednesday, with the Palestinian crisis and Israel’s ongoing military assault in Gaza expected to dominate the discussions.
The session will open with a briefing by Ramiz Alakbarov, the UN Deputy Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, followed by closed consultations among member states.
The meeting comes amid Israel’s intensifying campaign of violence in Gaza, which has resulted in massive civilian casualties, widespread destruction of homes and infrastructure, and a deepening humanitarian catastrophe. The session is widely anticipated to focus on calls for an immediate ceasefire, protection of Palestinian civilians, and unimpeded humanitarian access to the besieged enclave.
Human rights organizations and UN agencies have repeatedly condemned the attacks as violations of international law, emphasizing that the civilian population, particularly women and children, continues to bear the brunt of Israel’s military operations.
Diplomatic observers hope the Security Council session will provide an opportunity to hold Israel accountable for its crimes and to press for urgent measures to alleviate the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza, whose daily lives have been transformed into a struggle for survival under relentless bombardment.
