UNRWA urges immediate access to Gaza as humanitarian catastrophe deepens

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has issued an urgent appeal for the immediate and unrestricted entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, warning that the ongoing Israeli blockade and military campaign have pushed the enclave to the brink of collapse.
In a statement released on Friday, the agency revealed that its warehouse in Amman, Jordan, located just a three-hour drive from Gaza, is fully stocked with critical aid supplies capable of sustaining over 200,000 people for one month. The supplies include flour, food parcels, hygiene kits, blankets, and essential medical equipment — all ready for deployment.
“In the UNRWA warehouse in Amman, just a three-hour drive from Gaza, we have enough supplies to sustain over 200,000 people for an entire month,” the agency said, highlighting the dire consequences of Israel’s complete blockade, which began on March 2 and has since halted the entry of food, medicine, fuel, and humanitarian assistance.
UNRWA emphasized the urgency of international action to open Gaza’s border crossings and enable a continuous, large-scale flow of humanitarian aid to address the massive and growing needs of the population.
“Gaza needs aid at scale — an unhindered, uninterrupted flow of supplies must be allowed in,” the statement stressed.
The call from UNRWA comes as Gaza enters the third month of total siege, with humanitarian conditions rapidly deteriorating. Medical facilities have collapsed, food and clean water are scarce, and over a million Palestinians have been displaced amid ongoing Israeli military operations.
Humanitarian organizations and UN officials have repeatedly warned that without immediate intervention, the Gaza Strip faces an unprecedented humanitarian disaster. (ILKHA)
