US-Israeli aggression targets Middle East's tallest bridge in Iran
The US-Israeli coalition launched a series of airstrikes on a major highway bridge linking Tehran to the western city of Karaj on Thursday, according to Iranian media reports.
The structure, identified as the B1 bridge—widely regarded as one of the tallest and most strategically important bridges in the region—was inaugurated earlier this year as part of Iran’s broader efforts to modernize its national transport network and improve connectivity between Tehran and its surrounding provinces.
Initial reports from sources including Fars News Agency indicated that the strike caused multiple civilian injuries, prompting emergency teams to be dispatched immediately to the scene. Iranian state television later confirmed that the bridge was targeted a second time roughly an hour after the initial strike, describing it as a deliberate attempt to inflict further damage on civilian infrastructure.
According to updated information released by Iranian authorities, at least two civilians were killed in the first strike, while several others were injured, some of them seriously. Rescue and relief operations are still underway, and sections of the surrounding highway have been temporarily closed as authorities continue safety and damage assessments.
The repeated targeting of the B1 bridge has drawn strong condemnation from Iranian officials, who emphasized that the site serves purely civilian purposes and plays a vital role in daily transportation and economic activity. Officials stated that striking such infrastructure in a densely populated area reflects a clear disregard for international norms and civilian safety.
Meanwhile, residents across Tehran reported hearing multiple powerful explosions that shook buildings and were felt across several districts of the city. Local outlets, including Shargh Daily, reported blasts in both eastern and western parts of the city, increasing public concern about further attacks.
Despite the incidents, Iranian authorities stressed that emergency services responded quickly and effectively, limiting casualties and preventing a higher toll. Officials reaffirmed that Iran remains capable of maintaining stability and continuing its development projects, while investigations are ongoing to determine the full scope of the attack and identify those responsible.
