Vietnam's National Assembly elected Communist Party veteran Vo Van Thuong as the country's new president on Thursday.
Thuong, 52, was elected with 98.38% of the votes, the parliament said in a statement.
“I will be absolutely loyal to the fatherland, the people, and the constitution, striving to fulfill the tasks assigned by the party, the state, and the people,” Thuong said
Thuong is currently a member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of Vietnam, a standing member of the Secretariat of the 13th Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, and a member of the 15th National Assembly of Vietnam.
He was the former 12th Central Propaganda Department of the Communist Party of Vietnam, a deputy standing Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee; Secretary of the Quang Ngai Party Committee; standing Secretary and First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, Chairman of the Vietnam Youth Federation.
He is the youngest standing member of the Secretariat of the Party Central Committee in the history of the Communist Party of Vietnam. (ILKHA)
