World Food Programme warns Gaza facing imminent starvation as aid supplies run dry
The World Food Programme (WFP) has issued an urgent warning about the escalating humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, revealing that its food supplies are nearly depleted amid Israel’s continued blockade of border crossings.
Speaking to Al Jazeera Arabic, a WFP spokeswoman described the situation as "very difficult," noting that their food stocks are running dangerously low. "The situation is very difficult in the Gaza Strip and our stocks are running out," she said.
Before the blockade tightened, the WFP had been providing daily meals to approximately 700,000 people. However, the agency reported that trucks carrying vital food aid have been stranded at the border, prevented from entering due to Israel's ongoing closure of key crossings.
"We may see deaths from malnutrition as the crossings remain closed," the spokeswoman warned, emphasizing the immediate danger facing Gaza’s already suffering population.
During a brief truce earlier this year, the WFP had managed to deliver between 30,000 and 40,000 tonnes of food aid into Gaza. That limited relief has since come to a halt, dramatically increasing the risk of widespread hunger and starvation among civilians.
The warning comes as Gaza’s health and humanitarian systems teeter on the verge of total collapse, under siege conditions that international aid organizations and human rights groups have repeatedly condemned. (ILKHA)
