Trade and commercial exchanges between Iran and Afghanistan witnessed significant growth in 2024, with bilateral trade volume increasing by nearly 84% compared to the previous year, according to Iran’s commercial attaché in Afghanistan, Hossein Roustaei.
Speaking on Saturday, Roustaei highlighted the strengthening trade relations between the two neighboring countries over the past two years. He revealed that Afghanistan’s imports from Iran exceeded $3.143 billion in 2024, a sharp rise from $1.714 billion in 2023, marking an 83% increase in Iran’s non-oil exports to Afghanistan.
Additionally, Afghanistan’s exports to Iran experienced remarkable growth. "The value of Afghanistan’s exports to Iran reached $54 million in 2024, showing a $29 million increase from the previous year and reflecting a 116% rise," Roustaei said.
According to data from the Customs Administration of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Afghanistan has become Iran’s fifth-largest destination for exports. The growing trade ties reflect a deepening economic partnership between the two nations, despite regional challenges.
Officials and trade experts view the upward trend as a sign of strengthened cooperation and mutual economic benefit, with both countries expressing optimism for continued growth in the coming years. (ILKHA)
