Duran: Ankara NATO summit to shape future of alliance and global security
Türkiye's Presidency Head of Communications, Burhanettin Duran, said the upcoming 36th NATO Heads of State and Government Summit in Ankara will be a defining moment for the future of the Alliance and the evolving global security architecture.
Speaking to members of the press at the International Media Centre established in the Nation's Library within the Presidential Complex, Duran said Türkiye was ready to host one of the most significant NATO summits in recent years, marked by what he described as the "NATO 3.0" agenda and expected to attract a record level of participation by heads of state and government.
"This summit is very important. Critical issues concerning both the future of NATO and how the global architecture will be shaped will be discussed in Ankara," Duran said, welcoming domestic and international journalists covering the gathering.
He noted that the International Media Centre has been equipped to accommodate more than 2,500 journalists, featuring workstations for 1,800 media professionals, 40 production suites, and dedicated live broadcasting facilities.
Duran said the summit would provide an important platform not only for discussions on NATO's strategic direction but also for numerous bilateral meetings between participating leaders.
Responding to questions about President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's meetings on the sidelines of the summit, Duran said strengthening the Transatlantic alliance would be among NATO's top priorities.
"There is an expectation for a shared commitment to reinforcing the Alliance and carrying it forward into the future," he said, adding that leaders would also discuss Europe's security, defence cooperation, and increased defence spending, while bilateral meetings would address each country's individual priorities.
Regarding President Erdoğan's planned meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, Duran said the talks would focus on both the NATO Summit and Trump's state visit to Türkiye.
According to Duran, discussions are expected to cover a broad range of bilateral issues, including cooperation on Türkiye's indigenous KAAN fighter aircraft programme, the long-running Halkbank case, defence and security cooperation, as well as efforts to expand trade relations between Türkiye and the United States.
Following his press briefing, Duran toured the media facilities prepared for the summit, including the hall where Presidents Erdoğan and Trump are scheduled to hold a joint press conference.
In a statement shared on his NSosyal social media account, Duran said Ankara is preparing to host a landmark summit that could become a turning point for both NATO and international security.
He added that the extensive media infrastructure established at the Nation's Library would enable journalists from around the world to provide comprehensive coverage of the summit, expressing confidence that meetings led by President Erdoğan would produce constructive outcomes on strengthening Transatlantic ties, enhancing European security, advancing defence cooperation, and addressing key regional issues.
