Eight killed, 26 iInjured as passenger bus plunges into ravine in southern Türkiye
At least eight people were killed and 26 others injured after a passenger bus traveling from Tekirdağ to Antalya overturned and plunged into a ravine in southern Türkiye on Sunday, authorities said.
The accident occurred at around 10:20 a.m. at the Kömürler Junction in the Döşemealtı district of Antalya. The bus, operated by the Buzlu company and bearing license plate 26 ABG 022, reportedly struck roadside barriers before losing control and veering into a ravine.
Following reports of the crash, emergency response teams from health services, the fire department, the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD), the gendarmerie, and the police were dispatched to the scene. Rescue teams carried out search, rescue, and evacuation operations while securing the area.
Antalya Governor Hulusi Şahin visited the site of the accident and received briefings from officials. Speaking to reporters, Şahin said the bus had departed from Tekirdağ in northwestern Türkiye the previous evening and lost control while navigating a curve in the Döşemealtı district.
“Unfortunately, eight of our citizens lost their lives in the accident, and 26 people were injured,” Şahin said. “Some of the injured are in serious condition and have been transferred to nearby hospitals, primarily the Antalya City Hospital, for treatment.”
The governor noted that preliminary assessments indicated adverse weather conditions at the time of the crash, including wet roads and fog. He added that the bus appeared to have been traveling at a speed unsuitable for the road conditions, though the exact cause will be determined following a technical investigation.
Authorities said emergency teams continue to work at the scene, while a full investigation into the incident is ongoing.(ILKHA)
