Four killed, nine injured as workers’ minibus overturns in Istanbul
At least four people were killed and nine others injured after a minibus transporting workers veered off the road and overturned in the Esenyurt district of Istanbul, according to preliminary information reported by Turkish media.
The accident occurred in the early hours, when the minibus reportedly lost control for reasons that have not yet been officially confirmed. Emergency response teams, including ambulances, police, and firefighters, were quickly dispatched to the scene following reports of the crash.
Health officials said the injured were transferred to nearby hospitals, with several reported to be in serious condition. Medical teams continue to monitor the wounded, while authorities have not ruled out the possibility that the casualty figures could change as assessments continue.
Police cordoned off the area to secure the scene and launched an investigation into the cause of the accident. Initial assessments suggest factors such as road conditions, vehicle speed, or a possible mechanical failure may have played a role, though no definitive conclusions have been announced.
Traffic in the area was temporarily disrupted as rescue and recovery operations were carried out, with the overturned vehicle later removed from the roadway.
The incident has once again drawn attention to worker transportation safety in major metropolitan areas, where similar accidents have occurred in recent years. Authorities said a detailed technical inspection of the minibus will be conducted, and statements from the driver and witnesses will be taken as part of the ongoing investigation. (ILKHA)
