Istanbul Airport named busiest in Europe with over 1,300 daily flights

Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that Istanbul Airport was the busiest airport in Europe between 2-8 December, recording an average of 1,352 flights per day.
“Our country ranked 6th among those with the highest air traffic volume in Europe, with an average of 2,511 flights daily,” Minister Uraloğlu stated, referencing the European Aviation Overview Report published by the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation (EUROCONTROL) on 12 December.
The report, which highlighted air traffic statistics across European airports, placed Istanbul Airport ahead of other major hubs such as London, Amsterdam, and Paris. Minister Uraloğlu emphasized that Istanbul Airport’s achievement underscores Türkiye’s growing prominence in the aviation sector.
Additionally, Sabiha Gökçen Airport, located on Istanbul’s Asian side, ranked 10th in Europe with an average of 662 daily flights during the same period.
Türkiye secured the 6th spot in Europe for overall air traffic, averaging 2,511 daily flights. Minister Uraloğlu also praised Türkiye’s airspace efficiency, noting, “Turkish airspace has become one of the most efficient in Europe, with delay times of less than 0.5 minutes per flight.”
This achievement highlights the strength of Türkiye’s aviation infrastructure and its growing importance as a hub for international air travel.
The Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining and improving Türkiye’s aviation standards, ensuring the country remains a key player in Europe’s aviation sector. (ILKHA)
