Orphans Foundation brings Eid joy to hundreds of families in Burundi

The Orphans Foundation (Yetimler Vakfı) has brought smiles to the faces of hundreds of families in Burundi through its Ramadan aid campaign, distributing meat packages and pocket money to orphaned children ahead of the Eid al-Fitr celebrations.
The humanitarian initiative, which attracted widespread attention for its emotional impact as well as its material support, aimed to uplift disadvantaged families living in difficult economic conditions. In addition to food parcels distributed throughout Ramadan, the Foundation focused on spreading the joy and spirit of Eid among children and orphans in the region.
The aid was made possible through generous donations collected to enhance the education, health, and overall quality of life for children in need.
"Burundi is facing serious economic challenges," said Abdulvahap Kaplan, a volunteer with the Orphans Foundation. "Here, putting food on the table can be a luxury—especially during festive periods. With this campaign, we didn’t just provide food; we delivered fresh meat and Eid allowances to address both the physical and emotional needs of the people. If we’ve managed to put a smile on a child’s face this Eid, then we’ve succeeded."
Priority was given to orphans and impoverished families. The meat aid allowed households to prepare nutritious meals during Eid, particularly benefitting families who had fasted throughout Ramadan under financially strained conditions. The distribution of Eid pocket money also enabled children to enjoy the festivities more fully and feel included in the holiday spirit.
The Orphans Foundation, which operates in numerous countries beyond Burundi, continues its efforts to support vulnerable populations with food, clothing, education, and healthcare during Ramadan, Eid, and other key occasions.
Kaplan expressed pride in the organization’s mission, saying: “We are working with a dedicated team of volunteers. These aid efforts are more than just financial support—they leave lasting emotional impacts. Our goal is to reach more families each year and be a light of hope for those in need.”
He also highlighted the broader social value of such initiatives, emphasizing that the Foundation’s efforts foster community solidarity and compassion, and reaffirmed their commitment to standing with the oppressed and needy wherever they may be. (ILKHA)
