Turkish and Iranian foreign ministers discuss US-Iran talks amid rising tensions
Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held a telephone conversation with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, to review the progress of ongoing talks between the United States and Iran, according to sources from Turkish Foreign Ministry.
The call, confirmed by both sides, focused on the latest regional developments. Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB reported that Araghchi briefed Fidan on what Tehran views as repeated US ceasefire violations.During the discussion, Araghchi reportedly blamed disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz on “US lawlessness and military adventurism.”
The diplomatic exchange comes as tensions remain high in the Gulf. US Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that its forces disabled two additional Iranian tankers attempting to breach a US blockade on Iran’s ports. The incident represents the latest strain on the fragile ceasefire between the two nations.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry described the Fidan-Araghchi call as part of Ankara’s efforts to stay informed on diplomatic developments and contribute to regional stability. Türkiye has maintained contacts with both Washington and Tehran amid the sensitive negotiations.
No further details were released about the substance of the US-Iran talks or any specific outcomes from the Turkish-Iranian conversation.
The situation in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global oil shipments, continues to draw international concern as incidents involving tankers risk escalating into broader conflict. (ILKHA)
