Turkish security forces intercept 17 migrants in İzmir
Turkish security forces have detained 17 irregular migrants in the western coastal province of İzmir following a joint ground operation, according to state authorities.
The operation was launched after the Turkish Coast Guard received reports of an undocumented group gathered in the Deliklikoy area of the Çeşme district. Coast Guard support units from nearby Alaçatı quickly teamed up with local Gendarmerie officers, intercepting the group on land without incident.
Following their detention, the individuals were handed over to provincial immigration authorities for legal processing and administrative handling.
Situated along the Aegean coast, İzmir is a well-known transit point for migrants attempting to make the crossing into European Union territory. Turkish authorities continue to conduct routine land and maritime patrols across the province to monitor borders and prevent illegal crossings. (ILKHA)
