Türkiye arrests 357 suspects in nationwide operation against ISIS
Authorities across Türkiye have detained 357 suspects in a large-scale counterterrorism operation targeting the ISIS (Daesh) terror group, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced on Tuesday.
In a statement shared on the Turkish social media platform NSosyal, Yerlikaya said the arrests were carried out during simultaneous operations in 21 provinces. He noted that the actions were coordinated by provincial police departments working alongside chief public prosecutors’ offices, as well as counterterrorism and intelligence units of the police force.
Emphasizing Türkiye’s firm stance against terrorism, Yerlikaya said the country would continue to show zero tolerance toward all terrorist organizations and their networks.
Separately, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office reported that 110 suspects were detained in the city as part of the operation. According to the statement, 41 of those arrested were linked to individuals involved in a recent terror incident in Yalova province and were allegedly planning similar attacks in Istanbul during the New Year’s celebrations.
The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office also issued arrest warrants for 17 ISIS suspects, including 11 foreign nationals. Prosecutors said the suspects are accused of membership in the terrorist organization and of maintaining contact with conflict zones.
According to the statement, the Terror Crimes Investigation Bureau identified the suspects through detailed analyses of digital materials seized during earlier Daesh-related investigations.
Security authorities said investigations are ongoing and reiterated their commitment to preventing terrorist activities and ensuring public safety across the country. (ILKHA)
