Türkiye and Cambodia have formalized their commitment to enhancing cooperation in the fields of media and communication through the signing of a “Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Media and Communication.”
The agreement was signed during a meeting between Fahrettin Altun, the Head of Communications for the Presidency of Türkiye, and Sok Chenda Sophea, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia. The meeting took place at the Directorate of Communications in Ankara.
Expressing his pleasure in hosting the Cambodian delegation, Altun highlighted the importance of the growing relations between Türkiye and Cambodia. He emphasized that reciprocal visits and the agreements reached are crucial steps towards deepening bilateral ties.
“Cooperation in the field of media will yield positive repercussions on every field,” stated Altun. He underscored the significance of the partnership between Agence Kampuchea Press (Cambodia's Official News Agency) and Anadolu Agency (AA), which began in February 2024. The new memorandum aims to further strengthen friendly relations and develop cooperation in media and communication.
Altun outlined the scope of the agreement, which includes collaboration on improving communication and digital literacy, combating misinformation, public diplomacy, and media and broadcasting. The memorandum will facilitate the exchange of information and expertise, sharing best practices, and organizing meetings, seminars, workshops, training programs, and conferences. These initiatives are expected to enhance bilateral relations in trade, investment, culture, and tourism.
“Our efforts in combating disinformation have been crucial,” Altun remarked, noting Türkiye's leading role in addressing the challenges of digitalization. He emphasized the Directorate's effective efforts in combating disinformation at national, regional, and global levels.
Deputy Prime Minister Sophea expressed Cambodia’s eagerness to work closely with Türkiye in the field of media and communication, strengthening cooperation and sharing experiences.
The meeting concluded with the formal signing of the memorandum, marking a significant step in the bilateral relations between Türkiye and Cambodia. (ILKHA)
