17 Al-Shabaab militants killed in southern Somalia
At least 17 members of the Al-Shabaab terrorist organization were killed during a joint military operation carried out in southern Somalia.
Somalia’s Ministry of Defense announced that the operation was conducted by the Somali National Army in coordination with international forces operating in the region.
In a statement, the ministry said the targeted site was being used by Al-Shabaab to plan and coordinate terrorist activities, particularly the manufacture and deployment of explosive devices intended to harm civilians.
The statement noted that during the operation, military units also destroyed vehicles and lethal weapons used by the group to carry out attacks against civilians and security personnel.
In recent weeks, Somalia’s elite forces, along with international partners including the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia, have intensified military operations against Al-Shabaab strongholds in southern parts of the country.
The Somali government has reiterated its determination to eliminate terrorist threats and restore security and stability across the country. (ILKHA)
