5.5-magnitude earthquake rattles northern Pakistan; no damage reported

A moderate earthquake struck parts of northern Pakistan on Saturday afternoon, shaking buildings in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre (NSMC), the earthquake registered a magnitude of 5.5 on the Richter scale and occurred at 12:30pm. The tremor originated at a depth of 12 kilometers, with its epicentre located approximately 60 kilometers northwest of Rawalpindi.
However, data from the United States Geological Survey (USGS) slightly differed, reporting a magnitude of 5.0 and a depth of 39.2 kilometers.
Tremors were also felt across several parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, causing temporary panic among residents who rushed out of buildings and homes in fear of aftershocks.
Authorities have confirmed that no losses or structural damages were reported so far. Rescue and emergency teams remain on standby in case of aftershocks or additional seismic activity. (ILKHA)
