Afghanistan: WFP commits to scaling up humanitarian aid in coordination with Islamic Emirate

Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, held a meeting with John Aylieff, the newly appointed head of the World Food Program (WFP) in Afghanistan, to discuss urgent humanitarian needs and future development cooperation.
The talks emphasized the pressing necessity of continued humanitarian support for vulnerable segments of the Afghan population, while also highlighting the importance of transitioning towards sustainable development initiatives.
Minister Muttaqi stressed that while immediate aid remains essential, long-term stability requires a strategic focus on development sectors. “Humanitarian assistance must be paired with sustainable projects that improve livelihoods and strengthen communities,” he said.
John Aylieff praised the Islamic Emirate’s efforts in supporting returnees and vulnerable populations, describing the services provided as “beyond expectations and worthy of praise.” He assured that the WFP remains committed to expanding its assistance and aligning future support with Afghanistan’s evolving needs.
The meeting concluded with both sides expressing readiness to enhance coordination, ensure effective distribution of aid, and explore new development programs aimed at long-term economic resilience. (ILKHA)
