Anti-Netanyahu parties secure majority as Arab parties make historic gains
Parties opposed to occupation regime's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have secured a parliamentary majority after more than 85 per cent of the votes were counted, while the final outcome of the election remains dependent on coalition negotiations.
According to figures released by the occupation regime's Election Committee, Netanyahu’s bloc won 53 seats, while the bloc led by Gadi Eisenkot, leader of the Yashar Party, secured 48 seats. Arab-led parties achieved a historic result with 19 seats, bringing the total number of lawmakers from anti-Netanyahu parties to 67.
A total of 61 seats are required to form a government in the 120-member Knesset. However, despite holding a numerical advantage, the anti-Netanyahu camp still faces challenges in forming a coalition due to political differences between the opposition parties and Arab-led parties.
Vote count nearing completion
The election committee said around 93 per cent of regular ballots had been counted, representing approximately 85.6 per cent of all votes cast.
The remaining regular ballots require additional verification, while around 600,000 double-envelope ballots, including votes cast by soldiers and others, have yet to be included in the final count.
These ballots are expected to be added to the overall tally in the coming days.
Although the results are not yet final, officials said significant changes to the current distribution of seats are not expected.
Several parties remain below threshold
Several parties remained below the 3.25 per cent electoral threshold required to enter the Knesset.
Among them are the Reservists Party with 2.6 per cent of the vote, the People of Israel Party with 1.6 per cent, and the Haredi Public Party with 0.2 per cent.
The final political picture will become clearer after the completion of the remaining vote count and the start of coalition negotiations. (ILKHA)
