Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was temporarily evacuated from his official residence in Canberra following a reported bomb threat, according to official statements and international media reports.

Albanese was moved from The Lodge, the prime minister’s official residence in the capital, for approximately three hours after authorities received information regarding a potential security risk. He was taken to an undisclosed location as precautionary measures were implemented.

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) confirmed that officers responded at around 6:00 p.m. local time to what was described as an “alleged security incident.” A comprehensive search of the secure premises was conducted.

In a statement, the AFP said no suspicious items were found and emphasized that there is “no ongoing threat to the community or public safety.” Following the search, the prime minister returned to his residence.

Increasing security concerns

The evacuation comes amid a reported rise in threats targeting federal politicians and public officials in Australia.

In October, AFP Commissioner Krissy Barrett announced the formation of new National Security Investigation teams aimed at countering hate-related threats, including those directed at elected representatives.

Earlier this month, during Senate Budget Estimates hearings, officials noted that hate-driven incidents and threats had been directed at politicians, public servants and members of Australia’s Jewish community. Authorities said that since the establishment of the specialized teams, 21 individuals have been charged nationwide.

While details of the specific threat at The Lodge have not been publicly disclosed, the incident highlights growing concerns over the security of political leaders in Australia.
