Azerbaijan army positions come under heavy fire from Armenian forces

Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry reported that its army positions were subjected to intense and sustained gunfire from Armenian armed forces overnight, escalating tensions along the border.
According to a press release issued on Monday, the attacks began on the evening of April 6 and continued until 04:30 on April 7.
The ministry stated that Armenian units, stationed in the regions of Gorus, Garakilsa, Basarkechar, Keshishkand, Tovuzgala, and Chambarak, opened fire using small arms on Azerbaijan Army positions across multiple directions. The barrage was described as periodic but intense, targeting strategic points along the frontier.
In response, Azerbaijan Army Units carried out what the ministry called "adequate retaliatory measures" in the affected areas to counter the aggression. Details of the retaliatory actions were not specified in the statement.
The incident marks a fresh flare-up in the long-standing conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia, raising concerns about further escalation in the volatile region. Neither side has reported casualties or additional developments at this stage, but the situation remains tense as both nations continue to assert their positions. (ILKHA)
