Four injured in shooting at Wilmer-Hutchins High School in Dallas, Texas

At least four people have been hospitalized following a school shooting at Wilmer-Hutchins High School in Dallas on Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities confirmed that the suspect is now in custody, bringing an end to the immediate threat on campus.
Dallas Police responded to the scene just after 1:00 p.m. following reports of gunfire at the school, located at 5500 Langdon Road. According to students on site, multiple gunshots—up to seven—were heard, prompting an emergency response from multiple law enforcement and emergency agencies, including the ATF, Dallas Police, and EMS.
By 2:20 p.m., officials announced that the campus was secure and there was no ongoing threat. Aerial footage from the scene showed a large police presence surrounding the campus while students were seen evacuating toward Eagle Stadium, where they were later reunited with their families.
According to the Dallas Fire Department, three of the four injured individuals were shot, with their injuries reported as non-life-threatening. The victims—three aged between 15 and 18, with one of unknown age—were transported to Baylor Scott & White Health, Parkland Hospital, and Methodist Dallas Medical Center for treatment.
Officials have not released the identities of the victims or the suspect. However, law enforcement sources confirmed that the shooter was a student. Dallas ISD police stated that the firearm used in the attack did not enter through standard security screening, and stressed that existing protocols and equipment did not fail.
In a statement Tuesday evening, Dallas ISD Superintendent Stephanie Elizalde announced that classes at Wilmer-Hutchins High School will be canceled for the remainder of the week, and mental health support will be provided to students and staff.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott offered his condolences, stating: "Our hearts go out to the victims of this senseless act of violence. I have spoken with district officials and offered all necessary support to bring those responsible to justice."
Tuesday’s shooting marks nearly one year since a similar incident took place at the same high school on April 12, 2024. That previous shooting, which occurred inside a classroom, was reportedly targeted and linked to a personal dispute. In response, students staged a campus-wide walkout just days later, demanding improved safety measures.
The recurrence of gun violence at Wilmer-Hutchins High School has reignited concerns over school safety, gun access among youth, and the need for strengthened preventative strategies.
As investigations continue, authorities have not yet provided further details on the motive behind the attack or how the weapon was brought onto the campus. The incident adds to a growing number of school shootings across the United States, further fueling national debates on gun control and student safety. (ILKHA)
