Four killed in shooting outside governor’s residence in Aden, Yemen
Four people were killed and several others injured in a shooting outside the residence of Aden Governor Abdurrahman Sheikh in Yemen’s southern port city of Aden, local authorities said.
According to local officials, the incident occurred on Thursday evening when an armed attacker opened fire on security personnel stationed outside the governor’s residence.
Security forces responded immediately and launched a pursuit operation, during which the attacker was killed, authorities confirmed.
Officials said the victims included a soldier and a Syrian couple who were passing through the area at the time of the attack. Local media reported that the couple, identified as a doctor and a nurse, were caught in the crossfire.
Several others were injured in the incident, while authorities have not yet released further details on the number or condition of the wounded.
The motive behind the attack remains under investigation.
Aden has served as the temporary seat of Yemen’s internationally recognized government since the escalation of the country’s conflict in 2015.
Despite its political importance, the city continues to experience periodic security incidents amid Yemen’s prolonged instability and ongoing conflict.
Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the attacker had any affiliation with an armed group.(ILKHA)
