Gaza martyr toll rises to 72,991, health ministry says
Gaza's Health Ministry said the number of Palestinians martyred since Oct. 7, 2023, has risen to 72,991, while the number of wounded reached 173,212.
In a statement, the ministry said three martyrs and five injured people were brought to hospitals across the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours.
According to the ministry, one martyr was recovered from beneath the rubble, while two others succumbed to wounds sustained in previous Israeli attacks.
The ministry reported that 981 Palestinians have been martyred and 3,104 injured since the ceasefire announced on Oct. 11. It added that 783 bodies have been recovered from under the rubble during the same period.
The latest figures bring the overall toll since the start of the Israeli offensive on Gaza to 72,991 martyrs and 173,212 wounded, according to the ministry.
Health officials said rescue efforts continue amid widespread destruction, while many victims remain trapped beneath collapsed buildings.
The ministry said thousands of Palestinians are still believed to be trapped beneath the rubble or in areas inaccessible to rescue crews, indicating that the overall number of martyrs may continue to rise.(ILKHA)
