Haiti: Armed gangs kill at least 40 in brutal neighborhood massacre

A violent gang attack in Haiti has resulted in the deaths of at least 40 people as heavily armed gunmen continue to terrorize the upscale Kenscoff neighborhood in the capital, Port-au-Prince.
According to Mayor Jean Massillon, the siege has lasted for over eight days, with gangs storming homes, indiscriminately opening fire on civilians, and leaving a trail of devastation. The attack is part of the country’s ongoing surge in gang violence, which has escalated in recent months.
Kenscoff, home to many of Haiti’s wealthiest residents, has been the latest target of ruthless criminal factions seeking to expand their control over strategic areas of the city. Witnesses describe scenes of chaos and bloodshed as residents flee for their lives, with local law enforcement struggling to regain control of the area.
The massacre underscores the deteriorating security situation in Haiti, where gang activity has significantly increased following political instability and a weakened government response.
Experts warn that Haiti is on the brink of total lawlessness, as gangs continue to outgun security forces and expand their influence across Port-au-Prince and beyond. International bodies, including the United Nations, have repeatedly called for urgent intervention to restore stability to the nation.
Despite growing concerns, Haitian authorities have yet to announce a concrete plan to combat the violence. Residents of Kenscoff remain trapped in a state of fear, as gangs continue their deadly rampage.
The escalating violence raises questions about whether the international community will step in to address Haiti’s worsening crisis. Calls for a multinational security force have intensified, but as the situation worsens, time is running out for many Haitians caught in the crossfire. (ILKHA)
