Iran condemns US for 'blatant ceasefire violations,' demands international action
Iran's Foreign Ministry has accused the United States of systematically violating the ceasefire agreement reached just weeks ago, strongly condemning Washington's latest wave of military strikes as unlawful aggression and urging the international community to hold the US accountable.
In a statement released early Monday, the ministry said the United States had breached "almost every part" of the memorandum signed 25 days ago to end hostilities, describing the latest attacks as a clear demonstration of Washington's disregard for international commitments.
The ministry denounced the US strikes as "brutal" and a flagrant violation of the United Nations Charter, particularly Article 2(4), which prohibits the use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of sovereign states.
According to Tehran, the latest military campaign poses a grave threat to regional stability and international peace.
"Only 25 days after the signing of the memorandum to end the war, the American regime has openly violated almost all parts of that agreement," the statement said.
Tehran Accuses Washington of Targeting Civilian Infrastructure
Iranian officials said the United States had carried out attacks on civilian infrastructure, including transportation networks, fishing vessels, cargo ships and residential buildings, describing the strikes as war crimes committed against the Iranian people.
The Foreign Ministry also accused Washington of interfering with Iran's implementation of transit arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz, arguing that US actions have undermined maritime security and disrupted international commercial shipping through one of the world's most strategically significant waterways.
According to Tehran, the renewed American military campaign has reversed efforts aimed at restoring stability in the Gulf following the recently negotiated ceasefire.
Warning to Regional States
The ministry also warned countries along the southern coast of the Persian Gulf that the United States was using their territory and military facilities to organize attacks against Iran.
It argued that by allowing American forces to operate from their soil, these states risk becoming directly involved in what Tehran described as Washington's "illegal and criminal war" against the Islamic Republic.
Iran stressed that any country facilitating military operations against it could face consequences, declaring that the origin of any attack on Iranian territory would be considered a legitimate target for defensive operations by the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Tehran Rejects Trump's Claims
The Foreign Ministry also rejected statements by US President Donald Trump regarding the outcome of Saturday's negotiations in Muscat, dismissing his characterization of the talks as "pure lies" motivated by political desperation.
According to Tehran, the discussions focused primarily on arrangements governing navigation and transit through the Strait of Hormuz rather than the issues described by Washington.
Iran further claimed that the United States prevented progress in the negotiations through direct and indirect pressure on Omani mediators.
Call for UN Action
Concluding its statement, the Foreign Ministry criticized what it called the "non-constructive" response of the United Nations Secretariat to what it described as clear American violations of international law.
Tehran called on UN Secretary-General and the UN Security Council to take immediate action by condemning the United States, holding those responsible accountable, and pursuing legal measures against officials who authorized and carried out attacks on Iran.
The statement reaffirmed Iran's position that it will continue to defend its sovereignty and national security while urging international institutions to uphold international law and prevent further acts of aggression against the country. (ILKHA)
