Iran confirms four soldiers killed in “terrorist” attack in Sistan and Baluchestan
Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) announced on Wednesday that the number of its Ground Force members killed in a “terrorist” attack in the country’s southeast has risen to four, after one of the wounded soldiers succumbed to his injuries.
According to the IRGC’s official outlet, Sepah News, the latest casualty died following a clash with what the IRGC described as “terrorists” in the Lar region, northeast of Zahedan, the capital of Sistan and Baluchestan province. The statement did not provide details on the assailants’ identity or organizational affiliation.
The IRGC identified the four slain personnel as Sajjad Marashi, Mohammad Bazi, Alireza Nasirabadi Sarhadi, and Alireza Piri. Security forces have launched a manhunt across the region to track down and apprehend those responsible.
Earlier in the day, the IRGC reported that three soldiers had been killed during a mission to protect Iran’s border, blaming the attack on “terrorist and hostile groups.”
Sistan and Baluchestan—bordering Pakistan and Afghanistan—has long faced instability and periodic violence, with multiple attacks in recent years targeting both civilians and security personnel. Iranian authorities accuse a range of extremist and separatist groups of operating in the area and exploiting the rugged border zones for cross-border infiltration. (ILKHA)
