Iran has announced that the general framework for a new agreement with Oman has largely been finalized, with the final text and additional details expected to be released following approval by senior officials.

Speaking in an interview on Friday, Hassan Ghashghavi, spokesperson for the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, said the two sides had reached broad consensus on the outline of the agreement, although the final approval process is still underway.

"The general framework of the agreement with Oman has been broadly established," Ghashghavi said, adding that formal endorsement by higher authorities remains necessary before the agreement can be officially announced.

He noted that Tehran is awaiting both the finalized agreement and a joint statement, which he said will provide greater clarity on the key principles and objectives of the accord.

"We are waiting for both the final agreement and a joint statement that will clarify many of the general guidelines," Ghashghavi said.

The senior Iranian lawmaker emphasized that the public should wait for the official announcement before drawing conclusions about the contents of the agreement.

"Apart from the general discussion I mentioned, final news and details will hopefully be published shortly," he added.

Although Iranian officials have not disclosed the specific subject matter of the agreement, the announcement comes amid ongoing efforts by Tehran and Muscat to strengthen bilateral cooperation across political, economic and regional issues.

Iran and Oman have traditionally maintained close diplomatic relations and have frequently cooperated on regional mediation efforts, maritime security in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, as well as trade and investment initiatives.

Observers say the forthcoming agreement could further deepen strategic cooperation between the two neighboring countries, with additional information expected to be released once the accord receives final official approval. (ILKHA)
