Iranian authorities have released footage showing the moment an American MQ-9 unmanned aerial vehicle was shot down by Iran’s air defense forces during aerial clashes over the Strait of Hormuz early Wednesday.

According to Iranian reports, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) air defense units intercepted and destroyed the US drone over Jam County in Bushehr Province, in southern Iran, as tensions escalated in the strategically sensitive waters of the northern Persian Gulf.

Iranian officials said the intruding drone approached the area from over the Persian Gulf and was detected entering what they described as an active confrontation zone, allegedly with the intention of interfering in ongoing defensive operations.

The IRGC stated that the aircraft was engaged and successfully neutralized by its modern air defense systems after being identified as a hostile intruding asset operating in Iranian airspace.

Footage released by Iranian media shows the moment the drone is struck and brought down, which Iranian officials presented as evidence of the effectiveness and readiness of the country’s air defense network.

Authorities in Tehran have repeatedly warned against what they describe as foreign military incursions near Iranian airspace, particularly in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy corridor.
