Iranian and Saudi foreign ministers discuss Yemen crisis in phone call
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and his Saudi counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, held a telephone conversation to discuss the latest developments in Yemen amid renewed regional tensions.
According to Iranian media, the two foreign ministers spoke on Friday evening, focusing on the escalating situation in Yemen and broader regional developments. The call came as fighting in Yemen has intensified and cross-border attacks have further heightened tensions in the region.
Araghchi expressed concern over the worsening security situation, warning that continued reliance on military solutions while neglecting political dialogue would further complicate the crisis.
He stressed that regional conflicts cannot be resolved through military means alone and reaffirmed Iran's support for a political solution.
Araghchi said Iran is prepared to contribute to efforts aimed at facilitating dialogue between Saudi Arabia and Yemen in support of a political settlement.
The telephone conversation marked the first publicly reported contact between the two foreign ministers since violence escalated again in Yemen, where renewed fighting and attacks have increased concerns over regional stability.
The two countries restored diplomatic relations in 2023 after years of strained ties, and both sides have repeatedly expressed support for dialogue as a means of addressing regional crises. Recent developments in Yemen, however, have renewed concerns over the security situation and the risk of wider regional escalation. (ILKHA)
