Iranian FM Araghchi says Iran-US deal ‘has never been closer’
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has signaled that negotiations between Tehran and Washington have reached a decisive stage, saying the proposed Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding is now closer than ever to becoming a reality.
In a message published on the social media platform X on Friday, Araghchi stressed that months of diplomatic engagement have brought the two sides to the threshold of a potential agreement, while cautioning against premature conclusions regarding its contents.
"The Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding has never been closer," Araghchi wrote.
The senior Iranian diplomat called on media outlets and political commentators to avoid speculation while the final stages of the negotiations are still underway, emphasizing that responsible diplomacy requires patience and discretion.
"Pending its finalization, the media should refrain from entering speculation about its content," he stated.
Araghchi reaffirmed the Islamic Republic's commitment to transparency and accountability toward the Iranian people, noting that the details of the understanding would be disclosed once the diplomatic process is formally completed.
"In line with our responsible and transparent approach, all details will be shared with the public in due course," he added.
His remarks come amid intensified diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving outstanding issues between Iran and the United States through dialogue and mutual understanding. Iranian officials have repeatedly underscored that any agreement must safeguard the country's national interests, preserve its sovereign rights, and respect the principles outlined by the leadership of the Islamic Republic.
Araghchi's latest comments have fueled expectations that the long-running negotiations may soon yield tangible results. While the contents of the proposed Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding remain undisclosed, Tehran has maintained that it will only endorse an arrangement that guarantees the rights and dignity of the Iranian nation while ensuring that the country's strategic interests remain fully protected.
As anticipation grows over the outcome of the talks, Iranian authorities continue to project confidence that principled diplomacy, conducted from a position of strength and independence, can pave the way for an agreement consistent with the Islamic Republic's red lines and national priorities.
