Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi meets with Afghan officials in Kabul
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held high-level talks with officials from the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan during a visit to Kabul on Sunday.
In a meeting with Amir Khan Muttaqi, Afghanistan’s acting foreign minister, the two sides discussed strengthening bilateral relations across economic, political, and cultural domains.
Welcoming the Iranian delegation, Muttaqi expressed optimism about the meeting's potential to enhance ties between the neighboring countries. “We hope that this meeting will improve the level of our relations with you,” Muttaqi said. He emphasized the shared history and close cultural ties between the two nations, stating, “Iran and Afghanistan are two neighboring Muslim countries and always share each other's sorrows and joys.”
Araghchi, making his first visit to Afghanistan since his appointment as foreign minister, highlighted the existing strong relationship between the two nations. “Economic, commercial, and political relations between the two countries are at a good level, and I hope that in this trip we will be able to improve relations as much as possible for the national interests of both sides,” he said.
The Iranian foreign minister also stressed the importance of deepening economic collaboration. “I hope that more economic relations will be established between Iran and Afghanistan and these good cultural relations and these fraternal relations will become stronger every day so that the two nations will benefit from them,” he added.
Araghchi’s delegation included a team of economic activists, reflecting a focus on fostering trade and investment ties during the visit.
This visit marks a significant step in diplomatic engagement between Iran and Afghanistan, with both sides expressing a commitment to strengthening their long-standing partnership. (ILKHA)
