Iraqi PM Sudani meets Barzani in Erbil to strengthen Baghdad-Erbil ties

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani met with Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani in Salahaddin, Erbil, to bolster relations between Baghdad and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) amid ongoing national challenges.
The talks focused on political developments, regional dynamics, and resolving disputes over budget allocations, oil revenues, and security cooperation.
Sudani’s Media Office emphasized his commitment to national unity and institutional strengthening through sustained dialogue between federal and regional authorities. The Prime Minister urged Kurdish political parties to expedite forming a new government post-elections.
Barzani commended Baghdad’s balanced approach and expressed support for deeper collaboration to safeguard Iraq’s interests. KRG spokesperson Peshawa Hawramani told Kurdistan 24 that dialogue remains the key to resolving longstanding issues, highlighting the KRG’s commitment to Iraq’s constitutional framework.
Iraqi government spokesperson Ali al-Awadi described the visit as part of principled engagement with all political factions. Sudani is set to meet KRG Prime Minister Masrour Barzani later today, marking his fourth visit to the Kurdistan Region since taking office, with the last on November 13, 2024.
