Islamic Emirate promotes secure investment climate at China fair

Afghanistan’s Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi touted the country’s stable and secure environment for investment and trade during his speech at the opening of the 20th Western China International Fair in Chengdu.
Highlighting Afghanistan’s economic potential, Muttaqi emphasized its vast natural resources, youthful population, strong agricultural sector, and strategic location as key factors positioning the country as a hub for regional trade and transit.
“The Islamic Emirate has established a secure and reliable environment for investment and commerce,” Muttaqi told an international audience, underscoring Afghanistan’s readiness to attract foreign investors. He specifically highlighted China’s role as a vital economic partner, stating, “China is not only our neighboring country but also a strong economic partner. We consider China’s role in agriculture, infrastructure, and technology in Afghanistan to be highly significant.”
Since the Islamic Emirate regained control in 2021, China has become Afghanistan’s largest source of foreign direct investment, with Chinese companies expanding operations in mining, construction, and energy under new agreements with Kabul. The Afghan delegation’s participation in the trade fair aims to further bolster foreign investment and foster long-term trade ties.
Muttaqi’s remarks reflect Afghanistan’s push to integrate into regional economic frameworks, despite challenges related to international recognition and sanctions. Afghan officials reiterated that improved security under the Islamic Emirate’s governance has created new opportunities for investors in a market previously marked by instability. (ILKHA)
