United States: 2 dead, 9 injured in Philadelphia park shooting

A Memorial Day gathering at Fairmount Park turned tragic late Monday night as a mass shooting left two people dead and nine others injured, including three teenagers, in one of the city’s most popular public spaces.
The shooting occurred around 10:27 p.m. on May 26, as dozens of adults were concluding their holiday gathering. Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel, speaking at a Tuesday morning briefing, confirmed that a man and a woman were killed at the scene. The nine wounded, which include three juveniles aged 15 to 17, are reported to be in stable condition.
No arrests have been made, and no weapons were recovered as of Tuesday morning. Police are analyzing social media footage to assist in the ongoing investigation. Commissioner Bethel suggested that the firearm used in the attack may have been illegally modified with a "switch," a device that converts a semi-automatic Glock pistol into a fully automatic weapon, effectively functioning as a machine gun. Such devices are banned under federal law, with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) classifying them as machine guns due to their ability to significantly increase a weapon’s firing rate.
Authorities are appealing to the public for information as they continue to investigate the circumstances of this tragic attack. (ILKHA)
