Israeli occupation authorities released a group of 60 Palestinian prisoners on Tuesday through the Kerem Shalom (Karam Abu Salem) border crossing.
Red Cross teams received the detainees at the crossing and transported them by bus to Shuhada al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza, where they received initial medical care.
According to the Asra Media Office, the released prisoners include 20 Palestinian workers who were arrested inside Israel (the 1948 occupied territories) in the aftermath of the October 7, 2023 events, along with 40 other detainees previously held in the Negev desert prison.
Palestinian medical sources reported that the freed detainees underwent urgent medical examinations upon arrival at the hospital to assess their health conditions following their detention.
The release was carried out amid ongoing humanitarian concerns regarding the treatment of Palestinian prisoners. Many former detainees from the Negev prison have previously reported experiencing difficult conditions during their imprisonment.
This latest group of releases comes as part of periodic prisoner movements between Israeli authorities and Gaza. No further details were immediately released regarding the full identities of those freed or the duration of their detention. (ILKHA)
