Israeli army faces deepening collapse: 22,000 troops wounded since October 7, 2023
Over half of the injured soldiers suffer severe psychological trauma as manpower shortage surpasses 12,000; data reveals growing cracks inside the Israeli occupation army.
The Israeli occupation army continues to experience a dramatic internal breakdown, as newly released figures show that nearly 22,000 soldiers have been wounded since the October 7, 2023 events — with the majority facing serious psychological disorders. The data adds to mounting evidence of a major structural crisis within the ranks of the Israeli forces.
According to the Israeli Ministry of Defense, 58% of newly registered casualties are suffering from trauma-related mental injuries, including acute stress, anxiety, and long-term post-traumatic disorders. Nearly 49% of the injured are under the age of 30, highlighting the toll the ongoing military operations have taken on younger personnel.
The ministry also confirmed that 873 soldiers are currently using wheelchairs, including 132 new cases, while 1,061 soldiers have undergone amputations, with 88 newly added to this category.
Meanwhile, Israeli media reported that the occupation army is grappling with a severe manpower shortage, estimated at around 12,000 troops — including 9,000 combat soldiers and 3,000 support personnel. Local sources describe widespread exhaustion, burnout, and declining morale across different units.
A report published last week by the Israeli daily Maariv stated that the “heavy fighting across seven fronts for more than two years has depleted the army,” adding that many officers and soldiers are “mentally exhausted and waiting to return home.”
The crisis expands beyond the battlefield. Official data shows that 31,000 individuals are currently receiving psychological treatment, amounting to more than one-third of all wounded. Over the past 18 months, 279 suicide attempts have been recorded within the army, 36 of which ended in death, exposing the depth of the psychological collapse among Israeli personnel.
The Israeli rehabilitation system, overwhelmed by the scale of mental-health cases, has increased its budget by 53% to reach 8.3 billion shekels, with half dedicated to psychological services alone. Requests for recognition of injury status continue to rise, with about 1,500 new applications submitted each month.
These figures collectively indicate that the long-running military operations and relentless assaults carried out by the Israeli occupation forces have resulted not only in destruction across the region but also in a profound internal disintegration within the army itself. The growing psychological, physical, and operational strain suggests that the Israeli military is facing one of the most serious crises in its history.(ILKHA)
