Israeli Army sees unprecedented spike in soldier suicides after Gaza genocide
The Israeli military is facing an alarming and unprecedented surge in suicides among its soldiers since the launch of its devastating war on Gaza on October 7, 2023, according to newly released official figures.
The sharp rise reflects the deep psychological strain produced by what human rights organizations and global observers describe as a genocidal campaign against the Palestinian people.
Official data published by the Israeli occupation army shows that suicide cases have escalated dramatically during the war period, far exceeding pre-war averages.
According to the Palestinian Information Center, the spike is tied directly to severe psychological pressures caused by Israel’s prolonged assault on Gaza, which has involved mass civilian casualties, widespread destruction, and the collapse of basic humanitarian conditions across the besieged enclave.
The data reveals that from October 7 to the end of 2023, seven active-duty Israeli soldiers took their own lives. Throughout 2024, the number climbed sharply, with 21 additional suicides recorded, and in the first months of 2025, at least 20 more soldiers have committed suicide.
Before the war, the Israeli military reported an average of about 12 suicides annually, meaning the suicide rate has nearly doubled during the period of the Gaza onslaught.
The figures highlight a growing crisis within the ranks of the occupying army, as soldiers grapple with the trauma, psychological burden, and moral injury associated with participating in one of the most destructive military campaigns in recent history.
Analysts note that the rising suicide numbers add to a long list of indicators showing collapsing morale among Israeli forces, who have been deployed in brutal urban combat, lengthy ground operations, and repeated massacres widely condemned across the world.
Meanwhile, Palestinian civilians in Gaza continue to endure relentless bombardment, starvation, and displacement, while the Israeli military faces its own internal unraveling as a direct consequence of the war it continues to wage. (ILKHA)
