Israeli forces report fresh casualties amid escalating clashes in southern Lebanon
The Israeli military has acknowledged that four soldiers were injured after being targeted by an FPV drone strike in southern Lebanon, as cross-border confrontations with Lebanese resistance groups continue to intensify along the frontier.
According to the Israeli army’s own admission on Sunday, the incident marks another escalation in the ongoing exchange of fire in the border region, where resistance operations have increasingly targeted Israeli military positions.
In separate announcements, the Israeli military confirmed that a captain from the Egoz special forces unit succumbed to serious wounds sustained during fighting in southern Lebanon on Thursday. The army also reported the death of a soldier belonging to the Shaked Battalion of the Givati Brigade, who was killed in the same operational zone.
The confirmations add to what Israeli authorities describe as mounting casualties sustained during continued operations in Lebanon, where ground engagements have intensified in recent weeks.
Earlier on Saturday, Israel’s Ministry of Health released updated figures stating that 9,026 people have been hospitalized since the beginning of what it described as the US–Israeli war on Iran.
According to the data, 1,125 of those injuries occurred during operations in Lebanon following a ceasefire announcement in Iran in April, while a further 710 injuries were recorded on the northern front after April 17, when a separate ceasefire in Lebanon was declared.
The latest developments come amid sustained clashes between Israeli forces and Lebanese resistance groups along the southern border. Resistance operations have reportedly intensified in response to ongoing Israeli military activity in southern Lebanon.
On Friday, Israeli Army Radio reported that a military officer was seriously wounded, while a unit commander was also injured during an engagement with resistance fighters in the village of Zawtar al-Sharqiyah.
According to the report, forces from the Givati Brigade’s reconnaissance unit came under small-arms fire at around 8:00 a.m. The officer was evacuated by helicopter for urgent medical treatment, while the unit commander was also hospitalized following the confrontation.
The escalation underscores the continued activity of Lebanese resistance factions, including Hezbollah, which have maintained pressure on Israeli forces operating near the border.
As clashes persist, the situation along the southern Lebanese front remains highly volatile, with both sides reporting casualties amid ongoing military engagements and cross-border strikes. (ILKHA)
